I started a roleplay like this some time ago but the post got deleted. I am restarting it. This is a trench warfare setting in the MLP Universe. The idea is pretty simple. WW1 was very defensive in nature, and the ponies are unlikely to seek world conquest. So the establishment of potent defenses seemed fitting.
This is a profile for Shell Shock, my OC that gave me the ideas for this roleplay. It contains info that may be useful. I am gradually adding more under the various tabs so check back now and then if you are curious:

The Friendship line is actually a vast network of trench lines surrounding the Equestrian border. On the coasts massive guns stand in defense of naval assault. The trenches are solidly built, intricate, and well prepared to hold off any invading force. The line was carefully carved into the landscape, minimizing its destruction and maintaining a surprising visual appeal(especially for a pegasus or other friendly flyer from above).
During peacetime sections of the line have bridges across, wide, open bridges that let travellers in. After all the line is not a wall. It only became one when war was pushed on Equestria.

For many years the Friendship Line had no actual name. It would recieve this name ironically in war time, and it remained a well designed work of art, and even saw market places spring up near the many of the bridges. Beings of all kinds traded and sold freely, not giving thought to the nature of the place. Ponies were not war hungry. But there was a threat brewing...
Everypony knows the story of the Changeling assault on Canterlot...the daring and bold strike at the heart of the nation. But there was far more to the attack on pony kind then that. There was war for several years along the border. After all Chrysalis had many to feed. They needed absolute freedom to roam Equesria, which meant the line needed to be broken, allowing all the bugs in. Anywhere within 80-135 miles of the line could be struck by the largest artillery. Flying would only help if one had warning of the shells coming from so high above. This was a serious nuisance and a bloody conflict would ensue in an effort to punch holes in it...Join the call to defend Equestria!

Shell Shock made his way off the train. Word was that trouble was brewing and soldiers were being called to the trenches to prepare and be ready. He looked around, seeing familiar faces here and there. They had passed the largest cannons, the guns that could lob a shell up to 135 miles with proper magical assistance from unicorns(80 miles standard range), and stopped behind the rearmost trenches. "Shell Shock!" Said a familiar face. The stallion turned to look and see who it was....
