Stuff done:

  • Editing functionality on discussion posts. F I N A L L Y .
  • Personality types (ENFP,ISTJ, etc.), including Identity trait (Assertive/Turbulent) in profile editor.
  • Friendship-only option in profile editor, which will eventually do more as far as clearing the site of dating-related things when it's enabled.
  • Fixed the walls. The Horse Feed wasn't showing directional comments with the recipient like "Keystroke Derpy".
  • Revamped the site's javascript. Made a module loader, and put scripts into modules, so they're only loaded when required.
  • Dusted off the abandoned chat system. Researched javascript libraries and frameworks to get it working.
  • You can now search by name, username, exact email address, or role (staff, moderator, admin) on Explore.
  • Explore has a friendly 'no results' page instead of just being blank.
  • Discussions break down into pages - 10 per page.
  • Hide 'Interested in' on user info in discussions if the user's in Friendship Only mode - just like on the profile.
  • Slick, new notification emails. :D
  • Fixed the ban system. No errors when the page has comments or something with a banned user's name and avatar on it.
  • Donator tag on profiles.
  • Make profile walls function on the same level as the Horse Feed.
  • Image rotate left and right on Manage Photos.
  • Poniverse authentication
  • Fixed a nasty bug. Couldn't save settings with the timezone box blank
  • Create a Groups system
  • Save users' Horse Feed preference automatically - Community | Pony List
  • Rainer's Patch.
  • Fixed Skype links with "live:" in them
  • Fixed the "remove" button to remove friends on the Pony List.
  • Fixed Groups member counts not showing more than "4 members"
  • Don't show all wall comment replies on the comment. Have a "Continue reading" button
  • Add photos to the feed directly.
  • Wall comments on the Horse Feed, group walls, and comments with photos all work and look the same.
  • And now, the genders have been expanded to be more specific for transponies and offer a non-binary / undisclosed option.
  • Sort the groups by newest, alphabetical, or popular
  • Add the Groups preference to the Horse Feed
  • Show group-related shortcuts on the group view of the Horse Feed
  • Change the homepage description to reflect PonyCrush's upcoming expansion
  • Move some buttons outside of the dropdown menu on mobile
  • Show corner markers on replies that resurrect an old wall comment. (shown for a week)
  • Adjust main link color on Dark Theme to be easier to read
  • Add social interest to the registration pages
  • Make the discussion categories look good.
  • All photos open in a popup box.
  • One cumulative notification for several replies to a wall comment. (fixed.. again)
  • Brohoofs on wall comment replies
  • SSL (TLS 1.2) / HTTPS w/ HSTS
  • Sort users by recent activity on Explore
  • Autocomplete for usernames when sending private messages
  • Get the chat system live.
  • Parse MyLittleFaceWhen.com links.
  • Mods can now fix birthdays and avatars
  • Remove dating-related fields from registration
  • Disable dating site-wide :(
Goals (not in any particular order):
  • Mark All As Read on notifications.
  • Chat rooms for the chat system
  • User is typing.... on chat boxes
  • Profile fields for social links - Steam, Skype, FB, Twitter, etc...
  • Content parsing for DeviantArt, e621...

So there will be a chat!

I agree with Naomi's old post though: site still suffers from a lack of active users, and the chat will show it.

Can't say I won't appreciate it as a social experiment

Currently if you send a message to a new person with the same title as one you had with someone else the message won't send/be received. For example:

Message to Bob titled "Good Afternoon!" - [7am] Received

Message to Ron titled "Good Afternoon!" - [8am] Not Received

Or at least it's something I noticed in my use.

[Initial PM (1st PM)] I believe an initial PM not being sent has something to do with the title of the introductory PM already being in use in the system by the user or another person, and so the system may produce an error because it may already associate that title with 2 other users. So it isn't saved or sent and you'd have to retype the message. Unfortunately there's no way to look at PM titles already in use. I have been able to repeat the issue by using common titles that I don't currently use and with titles I'm currently using.

Some ideas for possible solutions:

  1. the system generating a random 8(x) digit number based on the values of the title created by the user and using that to identify the correspondence rather than the name of the title itself.
  2. Getting rid of the option to include a personal title and simply using the 2 users account names as a form of unique title (X&Y). Since there's already a system in place to insure that people don't create an account with a username already in use.
  3. The page provide a warning  before sending and save, or offer a button to the right of the title to "check" if that title is already in use.

Also, would it be possible to have the inbox condensed? For example, rather than having a single persons each reply generating multiple inbox icons it would have 1 inbox icon per person and a "replied" notification to the right. In addition, when you open a reply instead of having the entire window filled with the message history, unless you repeatedly delete it, have an option to "view message history" sort of like on FB. Both of these suggestions would decrease the amount of objects needed to be presented to the user by the server, albeit small, and thereby decrease server usage.

I'm still not sure what's causing the issue, David, but it's not the title trust me. Every table on this site is indexed, queried, and referenced by a unique integer. If there is a title-related isue, it'll likely be in the validation layer that ensures the title is present and not containing strange characters. I'll look into that.

...and as far ad the "condensed" messaging goes, I have it in the works. I simply started out with a traditional email-style Inbox / Outbox system. The view you're talking about is called "threaded messaging". By the time I got the idea to implement it, it was already to far in the way it currently is. It is still on my TODO list though.

...and by the way, if it shows in your Sent folder, it's 100% it shows in that user's Inbox. It's literally the same database entry. (Shh, don't share my secrets)

Well, Rainer.. that's a huge oversight on my part. I'll loosen up the validation on title fields a bit, so you can at least type symbols or accents...

..and an error popup and field repopulation too.

Chat is up. You can do instant messaging with users on your Pony List who are online. The system doesn't have chat rooms, but it was built with the flexibility for me to add them on when I get there.
